1.   Obituary of Rollin Lorenzo Rodman (Carson Porter Rodman, James M, Roseann Cusac, Andrew John)

Rollin Lorenzo Rodman was born about November 1860 probably in Lebanon, Boone Co, IN, and died 10 September 1931 in Kingman, KS. He married Viola E Burton about 1886. He is buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Kingman, KS. Viola E Burton was born about February 1863 in Missouri and she died sometime between 1900 and 1920.

“DEATH CAME TO END SUFFERING FOR INVALID –

      R. L. Rodman, brother of Mrs. May Parmenter, died at the Kingman hospitatl last night about 7:30 o’clock. He had been taken to the hospital in a serious condition Wednesday of last week after falling and breaking his right leg below the hip. He was 71 years of age.

Mr. Rodman was the son of the late Captatin Rodman, who had been a resident of Kingman in the early days. R. L. Rodman came to Kingman in ill health a little more than a year ago and his sister had been caring for him at her home. On Wednesday of last week Mr. Rodman attempted to move from his bed and slipped and fell. He struck the floor in such a manner and was in such a weakened condition that his leg was broken. His sister immediately rushed to him and then called the ambulance to have him taken to the hospital where every means was taken to relieve his suffering. His long illness and the nature of the accident made his condition critical.

Funeral services and burial will be held here. Not time had been set as to when the funeral would be, however, as relatives in Indiana were to be communicated with last night and this morning. Livingston-Reynolds Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.”

2.   Obituary of Luella May Rodman (Carson Porter, James M, Roseann Cusac, Andrew John)

“May Parmenter Is Buried Sunday –

One of the City’s Leading Women Passes Away Sunday at 78 Years of Age –

Mrs. Luella May Parmenter, widow of the late Clarence B. Parmenter and a resident of Kingman fifty-nine years, died at Memorial hospital Friday morning, March 10. She had been in falling health for sometime and had been in the hospital a week prior to her death. She was 78 years of age.

Funeral services were held at the Livingston chapel Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, with Rev. David L. Miller, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was in Walnut Hill cemetery.

A daughter of Capt. and Mrs. C. P. Rodman, Mrs. Parmenter was born at Lebanon, Ind., July 27, 1865. The family came to Kingman in 1885 and this had been her home since that time.

She was married in Kingman October 20, 1896, to Clarence B. Parmenter, one of the original members of the Jett Mercantile company. Mr. Parmenter died November 22, 1906. Her father made his home with her for a number for years after the death of her mother.

There have been few women in Kingman who took a more active part in church, school and social affairs than did Mrs. Parmenter. She was a loyal and faithful member of the Presbyterian church and so long as she was able she assisted in every way possible in all its work.

For many years she was a member of the Kingman library board and was president of the board a part of that time. The city of Kingman owes as much to her, and perhaps more, as to any other single individual for the fine library it has today. Those who are enjoying its benefits now are indebted in no small degree to her for the conscientious work she did in making it what it is.

As a part of her social activities, she gave her talents to create an appreciation and a knowledge of good music. She played in numerous orchestras and other musical programs and was a violinist far above average. In fact, she was a busy woman in all things which had to do with the betterment of the community and she considered it a sufficient reward to see those about her enjoy the fruits of her labor.

She is survived by two children, Mrs. Marion Beard at home and Horatio R. Parmenter, in the army at Camp Lee, Va., and one grandchild Lucinda Beard.”

3.   Obituaries of Marion Parmenter Beard (Luella May Rodman, Carson Porter, James M, Roseann Cusac, Andrew John)

                                                      “Marian Beard Dies

Mrs. Marian Beard died in the Kingman Memorial hospital July 1. She had been hospitalized since June 21, and her condition seemed to be improving, but she passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon. Funeral arrangements had not been completed at press time. The Livingston mortuary will be in charge.”

Kingman Journal, (Kingman, KS) 02 July 1963

“Final Rites Held For Marian Beard

Funeral services for Mrs. Marian Parmenter Beard were held July 3, in the Livingston chapel. Burial was made in the Walnut Hill cemetery with Rev. Hugh Marsh, pastor of the Kingman Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Mrs. Beard; a native of Kingman, was born Feb. 23, 1902, the daughter of Clarence and May Parmenter. She had lived in Kingman most of her life, and had been an employee of the Ben Franklin Store in Kingman for the past 22 years.

She entered the Kingman Memorial Hospital 11 days prior to her death, but seemed to be making satisfactory recovery, and her unexpected death Monday afternoon came as a shock to her friends and family.

She was married to Dwight Moody Beard in Kingman, Nov. 28, 1925. He died in 1937.

Mrs. Beard was a graduate of Kingman High School and the University of Kansas. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Delphlan Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Clyde King, and four grandchildren all of Wichita; one brother, H.R, (Bo) of Kingman, and her aunt, Mrs. Blanche Parmenter of 135 West C, Kingman, with whom she made her home.”

Mr. Beard was born September 13, 1900; died May 19, 1937. He was an electrical engineer and received his B.S. degree from Kansas university in the class of 1922.       This obit was on a 3" X 5" index card and didn't come off the microfilm like the others - so I don't have an official date or know which Kingman newspaper it came from.

There was a hand written notation saying he died in Wichita May 6, 1976 on the side.  The cemetery lists death date as May 20, 1976.  Both the 6th and the 20th are Thursdays.
